Meghan McCain will guest-host on “The View” Monday amid talk of her joining the show’s panel full-time, a person familiar with the situation told TheWrap.

It’s hard not to see the appearance as a tryout for McCain, the co-host of Pivot’s “TakePart Live.” TheWrap broke the news Thursday just before “The View” announced that Rosie O’Donnell will be rejoining Whoopi Goldberg on the panel.

(Update: ABC confirmed late Thursday that McCain will guest-host Monday, and said two others, WGN’s Ana Belaval and ABC News’ Sara Haines, would also fill in next week.)

McCain would provide a conservative voice to the ABC show, taking on the role previously held by Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The commentator and daughter of Sen. John McCain presents herself as a progressive Republican who doesn’t always agree with her party on social issues, such as gay marriage.

McCain remains under contract on “TakePart Live,” according to another person familiar with the situation. It was unclear whether she could leave the show for “The View.”

On “TakePart Live,” McCain offers a youthful perspective on breaking news, along with co-host Jacob Soboroff. She previously starred on her own Pivot docuseries, “Raising McCain.”

Earlier this week, Sarah Palin suggested that she might be a good addition to “The View” panel — but she does not have any guest-host gigs lined up with the show, and does not appear to be a serious candidate to join.

With the recent exits of Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, “The View” still has multiple seats to fill before the show returns for its 18th season with Goldberg and O’Donnell on Sept. 15.
